I know when I saw the photo of the mama Sea Turtle, that I had to paint Sea Turtles.
The photograph of the mama was taken by a friend of mine, Rod. So beautiful it captivated me.
I added in the bubba Sea Turtle because I love to represent the relationship between a child and it’s mother.
Sea Turtles, and what they mean to me…
This painting represents the time in your child’s life when it starts it’s journey of independence. Little bubba is slowly pulling away from it’s mumma, to explore whatever it can see above it. Life has a new meaning for this little hatchling, and that is ok. They are still young enough to stay with you and you are still cool and amazing, but they also want to figure things out on their own. A beautiful time to be a child, and a hard time to be a mum. It is at this point in your life that you realise you wear your heart on the outside of your body.
Another special thing about this piece is that it is my first try on timber! I have yearned to try painting on timber, ever since I first came across works by the amazing Audrey Kawasaki. I love working with timber and need to do this more.
